Banned Cards
No cards are currently banned in standard play. Calamity Boss-only cards are not legal in standard or zone capture (see Calamity Boss Rules).
Event Types
Play MewGem recognizes four event types. Each tournament listed on Play MewGem is tagged with one. Non-casual types are capped per location per month at the location's discretion.
Casual
Pickup play and learning events. No monthly limit. Counts toward lifetime and season points like any other event.
Challenge
Standard competitive event with a per-location monthly cap. Same scoring as casual but typically run more seriously.
Store Championship
Premier in-store event. Forces Standard game mode and 1v1 rounds, and includes a topcut. Per-location monthly cap applies.
Special Event
Hoster-defined one-offs (launch parties, themed events). Per-location monthly cap applies.
Match Scoring
Points are awarded per match by the tournament hoster after both players' self-reports. The same scale applies to every event type.
- Win — 4 points
- Loss — 1 point
- Tie — 1 point each
- Bye (odd player count) — 2 points
Streak Bonus
Consecutive wins inside a single tournament earn shop-only bonus points. The bonus does not affect that tournament's standings — it's added to your lifetime, season, and player-shop totals when the event finishes.
- 1st & 2nd consecutive win: +0
- 3rd consecutive win: +1
- 4th consecutive win: +2
- 5th+ consecutive win: +3 (capped)
Any loss or tie resets the streak.
End-of-Tournament Awards
When a tournament finishes, your tournament points plus your streak bonus are added to:
- Your global rankings — both lifetime and season point totals for that game.
- Your player shop points, redeemable at the Play MewGem shop.
- Your total wins and best-streak record (used as ranking tiebreakers).
Hosters receive 1 hoster point per participant in events they run, redeemable at the hoster shop.
Rounds & Pairings
Each tournament configures a round type (1v1, multi-zone, etc.) and a pairing style:
- Swiss — all players continue every round, paired by current score.
- Elimination — only winners advance to the next round.
If the active player count is not divisible by the round's players-per-zone, the lowest-ranked unmatched player(s) receive a bye worth 2 points.
Decks & Registration
- You need a Play MewGem account and at least one saved deck for the game.
- Register through the tournament page on Play MewGem by selecting one of your saved decks.
- You can change your deck up until the host locks the deck list. After that point, your registered deck is final.
- Standard format requires the deck list to be present at check-in. Sleeves are encouraged but not required.
- Online events use the deck on file. In-person events require either sleeves or a consistent card backing across your console deck.
Player Rankings
The global rankings sort players by total points, then total wins, then best in-event streak.
- Lifetime — all points earned since you registered. Never resets.
- Season — rolling per-game season totals used for seasonal placements.
- Per game — rankings can be filtered to a single game (e.g. NeoCatics) or aggregated across all games.
